Achievements 2004 - 2007


AUICK’s program of 2004-2007 focused on nine selected medium-sized cities in nine Asian countries, organizing training sessions and coordinating with UNFPA country programs, with the objective of training personnel who will play key roles in managing urban development and population issues. AUICK also facilitated the collaboration between AACs and local universities, research institutions and non-governmental organizations.


1. Research Studies

1.1. Baseline Survey (2004)
AUICK conducted a baseline survey in 9 associate cities, which includes data collection and analysis and best practices.

  • Adolescent Reproductive Health and HIV/ AIDS (Surabaya, Khon Kaen 2005)
  • Universalization of Primary Education for Urban Poor (Chittagong, Chennai 2005)
  • Population and Environmental Protection in Urban Planning (Chittagong, Chennai 2006)
  • Population Ageing and Appropriate Measures for the Aged (Surabaya 2006)
  • Population and Appropriate Water Environment Management (Weihai, Khon Kaen 2007)
  • Maternal and Child Health Care in Natural Disasters (Chennai, Danang 2007)

1.3. Mainstreaming of AUICK Project
AUICK initiated the process of “mainstreaming” its activities into UNFPA country programs. (2005-2007)

2. Training

2.1. AUICK Associate Cities Conference (2004)
AUICK held the 2004 AUICK Associate Cities Conference on ICPD Tenth Anniversary Review in Kobe. As the result of the conference, a Declaration of Commitment was formally signed by representatives from AACs.

2.2. Workshop
AUICK conducted 2 workshops each year targeted to high level administrative officials in specialized areas from the AACs.

AUICK published two issues of its Newsletter “Asian Cities and People” every year.
