A Country Study Directors Meeting regarding the comparative study of 10 port cities in 5 countries, which is being promoted by this Center, was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Pusan, South Korea for 3 days from 29th September, 30th and October 1st, 1991. The member directors of respective countries, with the exception of Dr. Lin Zhiqun (Deputy Director, Centre for Policy Research Ministry of Construction), such as Dr. Takeshi Yamasaki (Associate Professor, Faculty of Education, Robe University) of Japan, Dr. Jung Duk Lim Professor, Department of Economics, Pusan National University) and Dr. Nam Il Kin (Director, Population Research Center, Dong-A University) of Korea, Dr. Kartomo Wirosuhardjo (Director, Research Institute, University of Indonesia), Dr. Prem P. Talwar (Professor, National Institute of Health and Family Welfare), were present.
In addition to these country study directors, Dr. Toshio Kuroda (Senior Research Professor, University Research Center, Nihon University and advisor of this Center), Dr. Gayl D. Ness (Professor, Sociology Department, The University of Michigan) and Mr. Toshimi Yasuoka (Director of this office) together with 3 of the office staff also participated in the meeting.
At the meeting, reports were made by the respective directors on the contents of their papers, followed by close examinations, and comprehensive discussions were held to make out a final report. It has been agreed to make corrections and/or add additional data collection to each paper in the future. Also, it was agreed to include descriptions about the population policy of the respective countries in the overview paper. The Center expects to publish a final report by mid-February 1992 with the assistance and cooperation of the respective directors.
