AUICK staff visited Colombo, Sri Lank and Chennai, India from February
3 to 8, 2002 to meet city officials who participated in AUICK's past
training programs.
The aim of these visits was: (a) to learn about the impact of the
training programme on their work and policy formation their cities; (b)
to receive suggestions for future training programmes; (c) to promote
network among participants' cities in each country; and (d) to get
enlightened on the present urban conditions in each country.
The participants reported on the present situation of their cities and
presented some cases in which they learned at the training proved
useful.
Various suggestions and requests concerning training courses held by
AUICK and the newsletter "Asian People and Cities" were also made by
the participants.
Dr. Talwar, a member of AUICK International Advisory Committee attended
the Chennai meeting as adviser and facilitator. In the cities of
Colombo and Chennai, staff visited major health care facilities,
garbage transfer facilities and other government operating facilities.
