1. AUICK First 2007 Workshop
AUICK held the First 2007 Workshop under the theme of "Population and Appropriate Water Environment Management in Arban Areas" in Kobe, Japan, from 28 May 8 June 2007, with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Kobe City Government. AUICK invited nine participants from nine AUICK Associated Cities and an interpreter. »»More 

2. City Reports and Action Plans
During the workshop the participants made a presentation on the outline of their cities and action plans which they were expected to implement upon their return. The summary of their city reports and action plans is as follows:
»Chittagong, Bangladesh
»Weihai, China
»Chennai, India
»Surabaya, Indonesia
»Kuantan, Malaysia
»Faisalabad, Pakistan
»Olongapo, Philippines
»Khon Kaen, Thailand
»Danang, Vietnam

3. UNFPA Seminar
AUICK and the UNFPA Tokyo Office jointly held an open forum under the title "Asia’s Water in Danger – Population, Urban Development and Water Environment" in Kobe’s International House from 13:30 to 16:30 on 1 June 2007. It was a chance for Kobe citizens and AUICK’s workshop participants to discuss global water issues in the presence of Dr. Sultan Aziz, the Director of the Asia-Pacific Division of UNFPA. Also present were Ms. Kiyoko Ikegami, Director of the UNFPA Tokyo Office and Mr. Michitada Sugahara, of the Environment Bureau of Kobe City Government. Students of all ages brought a youthful perspective, and an eagerness to compliment their international studies with further awareness of the issues discussed. »»More
