A. Prologue and Founding of AUICK

Two important activities were undertaken in 1985 and 1987, which formed the prologue of AUICK. A comparative study of Singapore and Kobe was undertaken in 1985, and Kobe hosted an International Conference on Population and Development in Medium-Sized Cities in 1987. Both provided important insights and experiences that helped to shape the aims and activities of AUICK when it was formed in 1989. This section reviews the two earlier activities and the formation of AUICK.
