B. Next Steps

One possibility is to continue the past activities without much change. It is possible to continue the biannual Inquiries and biannual in-depth Studies. It is also possible to raise a series of questions about how to improve over past performance.

Making improvements will require raising a series of questions about AUICK's next steps. What should be done in the future? How can we best build on the past activities to advance AUICK's aims of generating and disseminating information and assisting in training Asian urban administrators. More specifically we can list four main questions.

What other types of information should be collected? (in inquiries and studies)

How can information collected be more integrated with training?

How can information collection and training be used by and have an impact on the urban planning process throughout the region?

How can the information collection and training be improved to have a far-reaching impact on solving urban problems in the region?

While this report cannot provide complete and detailed answers to these questions, we can lay out some ideas for consideration in larger discussions that will take place in AUICK itself, in its domestic and international advisory committees, with other advisors and observers. It can be perceived that these four questions increase in difficulty from the first to the last. We can say much about information to be collected, but it is always difficult to show how information can have an impact on urban problems themselves.
