UNFPA SEMINAR

Asian Cities Buried in Waste
– Development of Urban Population
and Environment in Asia –

Join our discussion on how to balance
sustainable urban development and a cleaner
environment, with environment department
officials and specialists from 6 Asian cities.

UNFPA Seminar 2009

Admission Free

The year 2008 marked the first time in history that the number of people living in urban areas, 3.3 billion, was greater than the number in rural areas. With population growth, deterioration of the environment is expected to become even more serious. For cities to continually develop, it is urgent to deal appropriately with the environmental deterioration, caused by garbage, water and air pollution, that rising populations bring.

This seminar will focus on the increasingly serious problem of waste in Asian cities. City officials in charge of environmental protection from six Asian countries will report on their cities’ environmental challenges and countermeasures, and a discussion will be held on how to balance sustainable urban development with a cleaner environment.
